Salomon and Suunto’s world champion mountain runner earns the most votes from National Geographic Adventure readers
Ogden, UT—February, 2014—National Geographic Adventure, National Geographic’s website dedicated to adventure, travel and outdoor lifestyle, has announced that Salomon and Suunto mountain runner Kilian Jornet Burgada, an Adventurer of the Year for 2014, has won the People’s Choice Award.
Each year for the past eight years, ten adventurers have been named Adventurer of the Year based on “extraordinary achievement in exploration, conservation, humanitarianism and adventure sports.” Over the winter, the website featured photos, interviews and videos of all ten nominees, helping the public get to know each adventurer. In November 2013, National Geographic asked its readers to promote their choice Adventurer of the Year and cast a vote to name one of the ten nominees as The People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year. At the end of voting, with more votes tallied than ever before, Jornet turned up with the most votes.
“Being designated adventurer of the year by National Geographic is very important to me. It is an acknowledgement from the publication I have read since I was very young which shares the same values that I hold dear: nature, adventure,” states Kilian Jornet. “The most exciting aspect of this prize is that it is awarded by the general public. For this reason I would like to thank all those who voted for me and all those who have supported me since I became involved in this sport. Feeling that what I do can inspire others and drive them to go out and fulfil their dreams is truly motivating and important”.
For several years, Jornet has helped develop and promote Suunto and Salomon products, including the now-iconic Salomon S-Lab Sense running shoe. To learn more about the products Jornet uses, visit www.salomonrunning.com and www.suunto.com.
