A little later this week we’ll present an article on some of the newest camping gear from Eureka!, which is a division of Johnson Outdoors Gear. But first, we’ll keep our National Preparedness Month theme going with some lighting options for your consideration. As we’ve mentioned before, we’re focusing on items that can serve double-duty in your 72-hour kit as well as your camping pack. With that said, here’s three of our favorites:
The SOS 120 boasts the following features: An SOS emergency flash mode combined with a powerful square beam variable from 1X flood to 4X spot with a twist of the knurled head, dimming control that adjusts power from 75 lumens down to 5 lumens, tactical-style tail cap to protect the on/off push button, a knurled housing with multiple surfaces for a sure grip even with gloved hands, and aluminum construction with Type II anodized finish for durability. Run times vary from 13 hours on high to 100 on low, and 170 on the SOS setting. A carry strap and 3 AAA DURACELL® batteries are also included.

The Magic 185 is a combination lantern and area light, switching between the two with a quick twist of the LED housing on top. While in lantern mode, the rippled convex reflector cone disperses light into smooth pattern. Switching to flashlight mode directs light through a textured opaque lens for a more focused effect. Maximum output is 185 lumens, and run times for the high, low and strobe settings are 25, 45, and 50 hours respectively, with the included 4 AA DURACELL® batteries. A single button controls the three lighting modes. Hang it from the swiveling wire loop in the base, or use the included carry strap and carabiner-style clip for versatility.

The Warrior 400 is an excellent choice for emergencies or longer camping trips, with 300 lumens of bright white area lighting for 100 hours on its high setting, and 20 lumens for 350 hours on the low setting. Pop off the diffuser globe to spread soft area light even further, or use the directional work lights on back, (1 white, 2 red) for close-up work. There’s even a strobe setting. The ABS housing has rubber grip accents to match the carry handle. A hanging hook, carabiner, and remote control are included, the 6 D-Size batteries required are not.
