Bloomberg needs time to think

“I want to think about it.”

That’s what Mayor Michael Bloomberg said today, rather than signing into law the regulations for the bicycle taxi industry. The good news is that he’s not opposed to the law – he’s actually supported it for some time now. At issue is the fact that it would limit the number of pedicabs on the streets to 325. But there are between 300 and 400 pedicabs on the streets right now.

So props to Mr. Bloomberg for at least giving some extra consideration to people trying to make a buck without contributing to the smog and traffic of the city. He has until March 30 to sign or veto the bill, or it will automatically become law. Let’s hope it gets changed before then.

There’s more to come — No mayor has done this at the last minute since Koch in ’82 with the bike messenger ban.
