Few things are more satisfying than a well cooked steak, grilled to perfection. And this time of year, every man should be enjoying that perfect steak. Cook-Air™is doing their part to bring the experience of a five-star restaurant-quality grilled steak to your dinner table.
The Cook-Air™grill is constructed of 304 stainless steel for long life, excellent heat retention, and easy cleanup. Boasting an output equivalent to 65,000 BTU, this grill can reach meat-searing temperatures of 1,100 °F, in as little as five minutes, making it easily the most powerful portable grill available. Amazingly, it does this without the dangers or of gas or liquid fuel. Instead, the Cook-Air™grill relies on its revolutionary design to generate that temperature from small blocks of wood. (Before anyone gets too upset, let me point out that they offer their own “pucks”, which are made from wood scraps that would otherwise be landfill. The pucks are 100% wood, and are non-resinous) Built into the base is a five speed fan, which allows you to adjust the heat level. It’s so efficient – the Cook-Air™burns 99.6% of the gases released by the burning wood.
Here’s a quick video showing the Cook-Air™grill in action:
Groovy soundtrack, eh? So how does it work? The base contains a powerful motor, which runs on 8 D size batteries, an AC adapter, or even the 12V accessory outlet in your car or camper. This motor turns a fan that provides the necessary airflow for maximum combustion efficiency, making it not only an excellent accessory for cooking at home or the campsite, but also more environmentally sound that less efficient designs. And because the base never heats up, you can use the Cook-Air™on any surface, even wooden picnic tables.
The whole unit weighs a bit under 17 pounds, and since it doesn’t use flammable or explosive gases and liquids, can be safely stored indoors or out. As delivered, it includes a cleaning brush, wood tongs, retractable warming rack, and a cooking grid handle. There’s also the previously mentioned 120V adapter, 12V accessory outlet adapter, and a convenient carry bag.
We didn’t get a chance to try one, but we saw it in action at Outdoor Retailer, and it seems like a great idea for grilling at home, while car-camping, or even at the beach (where allowed). And we’d like to remind our vegetarian friends that you can grill veggies on it too, although there’s something mouth-watering about a savory steak, seared on the outside, with all the juices and flavor locked inside, just waiting to be released with the first mouthful. If we manage to get the opportunity to try one, we’ll report back our findings. If any of our readers have one, or have been fortunate to have tried a steak grilled on one, please be sure to share your experience in the comments section. We’d really love to know if this product lives up to the hype.
