If you want great-tasting, guilt-free energy, you may want to try MacroBars from GoMacro. These vegan, macrobiotic, and gluten-free bars are not only delicious, they come from a company that prides itself in making nutritious products, but not at the expense of animals or the environment. GoMacro combines healthy living with sustainable practices. Their bars are great for a quick snack before or after a bike ride, run, or a workout of any sort, and ideal portable food when hiking and camping. We were provided a generous sample of the smaller bars for a recent trip, and quickly became fans.
The GoMacro story is both humbling and inspirational, and I encourage everyone to read it, as it’s great food for thought. For those that are more interested in satisfying their hunger, MacroBars come in a variety of flavors. Their High Protein line of bars are Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Banana + Almond Butter, Sunflower Butter + Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Cashew Caramel. Other flavors include Cashew Butter, Almond Butter + Carob, Granola + Coconut, Sesame Butter + Dates, Cherries + Berries, and Apples + Walnuts. That’s eleven different bars, so you are sure to find one or two favorites. I like them all, but found the Almond Butter + Carob hit the spot when I was really hungry, and the Apples + Walnuts perfect when I wanted something a little sweet. The Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip was the all-around crowd pleaser for everyone who tried them, so they are a safe bet if you are just trying to wean yourself off less wholesome foods. All the bars have a nice texture, not too mushy, nor too crunchy. And they are stable from hot to cold temps as well, so you can bring them with you wherever you go. Personally, I have found one of the biggest challenges to eating healthier is the convenience of unhealthy options. But companies like GoMacro make it very easy to stay true to my goals. I can keep a couple in my desk and in my car, and they will keep me from reaching for something I may regret later.
GoMacro Cherries + Berries MacroBarA quick glance at the ingredient list for each bar shows nothing but fruits and nuts, plus a few versions of rice, with some other natural flavors, all of which are easy to pronounce. No surprise here. What really got me was the flavor profiles of each bar. The butters were all new to me, and I have never been a fan of dates. Yet I could taste each ingredient, and found them all mild yet distinct, and delicious. That’s what happens when you don’t rely on flavors made in a lab – you just taste natural goodness. The small bars pack 90 up to 110 calories, and the large ones from 200 to 290 calories.
As I look over our tasting notes, there is not a single bad comment, other than “ew” from my son, who was not a fan of the Sesame Butter + Dates. Peanut Butter was rated as “boring, but still better than any other bar out there”, which is fair when compared to all the other tasty MacroBar options. Other than that, our group of six found them to be an ideal way to fuel some very long days outdoors (we were in Alaska, and it didn’t get dark until well into the night). So not only would I suggest you give them a try, but I’ll also advise a visit to the GoMacro website, as it reveals a wealth of information. They not only list ingredients, but explain why they are used, and also their source. There is a bit about amino acids, Free Trade, some trivia, and more. I spent quite a bit of time on there, not just to learn about the bars, but what makes GoMacro tick. It will definitely be worth your time. gomacro.com
