In the US, cyclists have to deal with bad roads, rude drivers, and all manner of other hazards. But they truly have it good compared to some cyclists in South Africa. Imagine you’re grinding up a trail on your expensive mountain bike, and a guy (or gang of thugs) jumps out of the bush with a machete, and demands your bike. True story!

Different countries, different dangers. But the predictably unpredictable habits of inattentive motorists is probably in some ways welcome, compared to someone intent on taking your bike by threat of force.
