MealKit 2.0 From Light My Fire

MealKit 2.0

Our friends at Industrial Revolution showed us plenty of new and fun camping gear when we visited them at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, and one of the items that caught our eye was the MealKit 2.0™ from Light My Fire. Best described as a “Thinking outside the lunchbox” food storage and prep system for campers, the MealKit 2.0 packs a lot into a small package. This triangular shaped kit is only 7.6 inches across, and 2.4 inches thick. But our Swedish friends know a thing or two about design (along with manufacturing, as it’s made in Sweden too), and managed to squeeze plenty into this small package. Both the lid and base can be used as plates or for preparing a meal. A pair of their SnapBoxes fit neatly inside, and offer waterproof storage. We found a 260ml Pack-up-Cup inside the smaller SnapBox. Sitting in the very bottom under all this was a mini cutting board with holes along one side for straining. The edge was sharp enough to chop veggies or even cooked foods, in a pinch. And of course, they made room for their famous Spork, which includes a small knife on the fork as well. It’s all BPA-free, and as a bonus for those that camp or play near water, it floats too.

MealKit 2.0

We’re fans of gear that serves more than one purpose, and the MealKit 2.0 certainly does double duty. For family camping, you can get one set for each family member, with six color options so that each person can tell their own from the others. Couples can pack food in one, prepare it, then serve it in the other. You can even send your kid off to school with the MealKit 2.0, although the Pack-up-Cup may have to stay home if the triangular SnapBox is used for food or a snack. As a bonus, rounded interior corners make cleaning on the go quick and easy, plus it’s dishwasher and microwave safe. Light My Fire never disappoints us, and this is no exception. Whether you use the MealKit 2.0 for packing your lunch, or as a mess kit, it’s a durable and economical (MSRP $27.99) solution. Our only criticism is that the cup, at 260ml, is a bit small. But we’d prefer to leave it out altogether, and use the extra space for food storage anyway. industrialrev.com
