The pack has one main top-loading compartment through the roll top seal, and two small pockets on the side which are also waterproof. A front center mesh pocket has a waterproof zipper, but the mesh doesn’t keep water out. On the bottom of the pack are two loops which I have used for my trekking poles and a reflective fabric patch in between them. The articulating shoulder straps and sternum handle are very comfortable, as well as the two padded sections on the back.

I’ve been very pleased with the performance of this pack. I was able to fit up to 30 pounds into it, and the shoulder straps plus back padding made a big difference with the load I was carrying. The smaller pockets won’t hold much, but they are sufficient for items that you would want to reach quickly and have easy access to during your trip. The mesh pocket can be used for items that may need to breathe. Everything inside my pack was as dry as when I put it in, after being exposed to moisture. The only part of the pack that gets wet is the inside of the mesh pocket and the straps which are not waterproof. I love the design of this pack, and will continue to use it for many of my day trips in the future. There is a reason it was voted the #1 waterproofing pack by Backpacker Magazine. If you go on frequent day or overnight trips, this pack is one you should seriously put at the top of your list to consider. I even recommend this pack to commuters who bike often.
