Snapguide Bike Hack Contest Going on Now!

May is Bike To Work Month, and the folks over at Snapguide, a community of makers who create how-to guides on things from food to tech to bikes, came up with a great way to celebrate. They launched their Bike Hack contest this past Wednesday, May 7th. What’s it all about? Submit a how-to guide on bike hacks (whether it’s custom gear for commuting or utility, fun mods to express yourself, or the kind of quick fix that would make MacGyver proud), and you could win over $925 in prizes from Portland, Oregon bike accessory companies PDW and Walnut Studiolo.

More details:

The contest started Wednesday May 7th, and ends on Wednesday June 4th, so you have a full month to enter.

What it takes to win:

Bike hacks and cool repair how-to guides. Submit written instructions that cover each step, along with some good pics that show how anyone can recreate your hack. Don’t forget to include a list of all the bits and pieces required. (Original works only, please)

Official jibber jabber we found on the Snapguide website:

Spring is here and now’s the time to get going on your bike! We want to see your handiest bike tricks. Have you personalized your bike with a steering wheel for handlebars, attached wacky tires, or made homemade handlebar streamers? Have you created a nifty place to hold groceries or spare tires, or found a surefire way to fix a bike chain on the go? Teach us your most creative and inventive ways for fixing up your bike. Get hacking!

What’s in it for the winners:

Over $2,000 total in cool hand-made bike accessories from PDW and Walnut Studiolo. These Portland-based bike accessory companies make the kind of stuff we like, because they ride too. The Grand Prize winner gets a package worth over $925. 2nd prize is over $500, 3rd Prize is over $250, and then there are 3 Honorable Mention Prizes at $140 each. Will you be one of the lucky six?

Snapguide seems like a pretty clever site (and app), and a great way to learn and share. Even if you don’t enter the contest, it’s worth a look
