Note: By the time you read this, the Vertex Ultralight Backpacking Stove campaign on Kickstarter will be over, but it was quite the success. We’re sharing it because this is one of those products to look for as you start updating your camping gear this year.

When you take your next backpacking trip, you may want to consider taking along the Vertex Ultralight Backpacking Stove by Vertex Outdoors. Kevin Bailey (founder of Vertex Outdoors) has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Texas at Austin, and enjoys hiking, camping, and backpacking as much as the rest of us here at Industry Outsider. So much, in fact, that he put his love of the outdoors and his knowledge of engineering to good use in making a simple product that is affordable, easy to use, and leaves no trace.

Having a pack that weighs less and gear that is more reliable will make your trip much more enjoyable. You will be able to go farther and see more on your journey. It was with those things in mind that Vertex Outdoors came up with the design for this stove. Weighing in at only 1.8 ounces, you won’t even notice it in your pack. Its patent-pending curved design supports all the necessary functions of a stove for fuel support, windscreen, and a pot stand. It does all of this while being able to simply and easily fold flat, allowing it to fit into the smallest pockets. This design has no moving parts and you can put it together in seconds. The Vertex stove is designed to use fuel tablets (such as those sold by Esbit®) which burn at 3000 degrees Fahrenheit. They have also made the stove accommodate a popular alcohol burner (the Trangia® Spirit Burner).

Material: Tempered 301 Brushed Stainless Steel
Assembled Dimensions:  4.84 in. X 2.87 in. X 3.0 in.
Weight: 1.8 ounces (50 grams)
Note: Your cooking pot should be at least 3.5″ diameter to sit properly on top of the stove.
