XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot Night Sights for the CZ P10 C

I recently picked up a CZ P10 C as a winter project. First on my list of upgrades was a set of XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot Night Sights. Not because the CZ P10 series doesn’t come with a good set of sights. It’s because my pistol is used, and the rear sight had some damage. That, and I have developed a preference for that big glowing dot up front. While this pistol was purchased as a range toy to test out various CZ P10 upgrades, I may carry it, or use it as a “nightstand pistol” as well. So the factory sights got swapped for sights that offer better functionality. XS Sights has been offering their night sights for over 20 years, and they are in use with law enforcement and military personnel worldwide. I figure I can trust them for my needs.

XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot Night Sights construction and design

Each set of these XS Sights for the CZ P10 is CNC-machined from steel bar stock, making them more resistant to the kind of abuse a carry gun is exposed to. They’re then finished with a blued coating to resist corrosion. What separates them from other aftermarket sights isn’t the construction though, it’s the design. Both front and rear sights contain tritium inserts, which emit a constant, self-illuminating glow. They can last for over 10 years without batteries. The rear also has a distinct front ledge, for racking on a belt or similar 90-degree surface. This trend in a rear sight that allows one-hand manipulation is a positive one. While the odds of needing it may be small, the peace of mind is huge.

This set also incorporates a photoluminescent ring around the tritium insert. Available in either orange or yellow/green, it absorbs ambient light and glows faintly in low-light conditions. It’s bright in daylight, and further enhances visibility before the tritium becomes fully active in low light. Combined, the 0.188″ Big Dot front sight is visible even in complete darkness. I can’t think of a situation where I might be shooting in complete darkness, but I do know that if there is enough light to see my target, I will be able to see my sights as well.

Why not two rear dots?

I asked myself that same question before I used the XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot Night Sights for the first time. The Big Dot up front encourages focusing on the front sight more than the rear sight. This can lead to faster shot placement as well as improved accuracy. Simplifying the sight picture is another reason. Just “dot-the-i” by placing the Big Dot over the V-notch rear sight. This makes it easier to align the sights quickly and instinctively. With use, I found that I could get on target faster than with the traditional three-dot setup.

Installation of the XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot Night Sights for the CZ P10

These XS Sights for the CZ P10 are designed to be installed with basic tools that most of us have already. In this case, a small hammer and a punch set, plus emery paper and maybe a file, is all that’s required. After making sure my CZ P10 C  was unloaded, I removed the slide. Then I loosened the set screw for the front sight, and carefully tapped it out with a wooden dowel. A brass punch would have worked just as well. After a few passes with some emery paper, the replacement sight slid most of the way in. At this point, I thoroughly degreased the slot and then coated the sight with blue thread lock around and under the base. A few gentle taps and it slid in.

For the rear sight, I used my sight pusher, but it came out so easily, I could have saved time and used a punch. Another degreasing, and then I test fit the rear sight. Seeing how willingly the factory sight came out, it was no surprise that the XS Sight slid in smoothly, if not a little snugly. After tightening the set screw, I used some red thread lock on both sides. The goal is to have it work its way under the site, to help lock it in place. While that was setting, I used a cotton swab to clean the excess thread lock off the front sight. Then I did the rear, and used a fresh swab to give them both a light coat of oil. Done!

Installation notes

Blue thread lock for the front sight, and red for the rear. XS Sights includes both with the sights, for a reason. If you skip either, there’s a good chance that your sights may take a walk under recoil. I’ve been hit in the forehead by an improperly installed (by the factory) rear sight. While this can’t happen with the XS Sights for the CZ P10 C, they can still fall out. So don’t skip the thread lock. The instructions also mention that you can zero your rear sight before applying the thread lock. I don’t have that luxury, so I install the sights, and then zero them at the range. If they are off, a few taps with a small hammer and a nylon or brass punch can fix that. And then another application of red thread lock.

Same great pistol, improved sight picture

When compared with the original sight picture, the XS Sights for the CZ P10 C is a night and day improvement. Literally. They work better during low light and bright light, plus everywhere in between. Will they make me a better shot? Not directly. But there are a couple of important components at play here. I already had the competency, as I have been shooting for decades. These sights give me more confidence. Young or old eyes, better sights are easier to pick up quicker. From the moment I open the safe door and see that glowing Big Dot, I know I’ll be shooting better. At the range, this is confirmed. Acquiring the target is more intuitive and faster. Same with follow-up shots.
