Comfort is definitely king with the World Outdoor Tall Directors Chair. Not only does this tall chair allow you to sit up high (and observe your outdoor minions?), but with a towering seat height of 31 inches, it leaves no question as to who’s the boss. Of course, it’s more than just about being tall.
Our Tall Directors Chair from World Outdoor Products is everything we’d expect in an outdoor chair, plus more. And a little less. Open, it’s 44 inches tall at the back, and 20 inches wide by 19 deep. It folds down to a compact 7 x 7 inches that’s still 44 inches tall, of course. And then it fits in its own carrying bag. But the “less” is what got us. The Tall Directors Chair, even with all the cross bars for stability, and extra hardware that allows it to fold up relatively small for a camp chair of this size, only weighs 9 pounds. That’s about four pounds less than a comparable steel chair. Yes, weight capacity is lower, at only 225 pounds. But if you were lugging one of these from the car to your campsite, or to a sporting or other outdoor event, shaving a third of the weight off makes a difference.

Chair frame to seat pad linkBeing tall and light weight isn’t enough to sell us on a chair though. Comfort plays a huge role in how much we like a chair. And through some clever design, the Tall Directors Chair certainly delivers. A little padding on the armrests is always appreciated. And a sturdy foot rest is nice too. But in this case, the foot rest is positioned right where my feet naturally fall (At the ends of my legs). Some rests are too low, some too high. I’m Goldilocks in this chair. Another area where comfort excels is in the seat. My informal measurement from my back pocket to my kneecap is 19 inches, same as the depth of the seat. So it doesn’t cut into my legs at the backs of my knees. Best of all, the seat itself isn’t attached to bars on either side, like most chairs. It’s got a little bit of swiveling hardware with a short but strong strap at each corner. This allows the chair to conform to you, not the other way around. On the back is a long pocket, handy when you don’t want to set stuff on the ground. Velcro, which I have an unnatural dislike for, is used to attach the drink holder, allowing it to be mounted on either arm.
Absolute necessityI’m the boss at my day job. I’m the boss when it comes to running this website. Being married, I’m not really the boss at home. And this chair lets me look the part, whether we are at a backyard BBQ, or some other outdoors event. It may seem like the Tall Directors Chair is a category lately, not just a product name or description, as several other brands offer them as well. But this one seems to fit my 5’10” frame better than most. The depth of the seat, as well as its bit of flexibility, provides extra comfort for those long s’mores and storytelling sessions around the fire. If that sounds like what you’re after, the $79 MSRP is well worth it. worldoutdoorproducts.com
