The Highland Tactical ELITE Tactical Duffel Bag offers a lot of versatility for what appears to be a simple duffel bag. We started using it as a range bag, loading it up with two cased pistols, ammunition, a few tools, and the usual ear and eye protection. It handled the job without feeling cramped, and the layout made it easy to keep things organized.

After a few trips to the range, its expandable design made it look like the ideal bag for an upcoming trip to Gunsite. While I ended up taking a different bag due to a specific airline’s carry-on policy, it would work just as well as a gym bag or a travel duffel, and the size and pocket layout would also make it a reasonable option for a simple bug-out bag.

Pistol cases in the Highland Tactical ELITE Tactical Duffel Bag.

Tactical Duffel Construction and Materials

The bag is made from a heavy polyester that feels tough without adding much weight. Its tight weave shrugs off light rain and range dust without any issues. Rubber feet on the bottom keep the fabric from sitting directly on concrete or gravel, which should help it last longer. The stitching looks solid throughout. After carrying heavy ammo boxes, loaded magazines, and tools, nothing showed any signs of strain. We always seem to pack extra ammo, so the seams or handle would be the first to show signs of failure. None here.

Tool set in the Highland Tactical ELITE Tactical Duffel Bag.

Expandable Storage in a Tactical Duffel

One feature I really like is the expandable main compartment. The bag starts at about 19.5 inches long, but it can expand out to 25.5 inches when you need extra space. For normal range trips, we kept it in the compact configuration. When packing additional gear or clothing, the expansion zipper adds a surprising amount of room. It is a simple feature, but it makes the bag a lot more flexible. If you’ve ever wished your vacation bag held a bit more for the return trip, this is for you.

Pockets and Organization

The ELITE duffel includes several pockets that help keep smaller items from getting lost in the main compartment. An accessory pocket works well for things like multitools, spare batteries, or small electronics. Mesh pockets on the front and side give quick access to items you use frequently. There is also a mesh water bottle holder, which is always useful during longer range sessions or trips to the gym. Hook and loop panels allow you to attach patches or ID tags if you want to customize the bag.

Spare ammo in the Highland Tactical ELITE Tactical Duffel Bag.

Range Use

For a typical range trip, the bag carried two pistols, along with several boxes of 9mm and .22 LR ammunition. Plus loaded mags, including a 50-round drum, cleaning gear, ear protection, and shooting glasses. Everything fit without needing to cram things in.

The larger size also made it easier to keep things separated compared with smaller pistol range bags. Though I do also use another bag with internal compartments for rimfire magazines, I really prefer one big, open main compartment. With the lid wide open, it’s easy enough to stay organized and just grab what you need. For shooters who bring more than the basics to the range, the extra space is definitely useful.

Using a Tactical Duffel for Travel or Bug-Out Gear

Because the bag expands and has a good amount of internal space, it also works well as a basic travel duffel. A couple days’ worth of clothing will fit easily, and the extra pockets help keep smaller items organized. The same features make it a decent option for a simple bug-out bag or emergency kit. There is enough room for essential gear while still keeping everything manageable to carry. Having the option to expand it in a pinch cannot be overstated. It’s just too convenient.

Expansion option of the Highland Tactical ELITE Tactical Duffel Bag.

Comfort and Carry

The bag includes reinforced carry handles along with a grippy, removable shoulder strap. The strap can be adjusted for either shoulder carry or cross-body carry, depending on preference. Even when loaded with gear, the bag remained comfortable to carry by the carry handles. The strap is useful for lighter loads, but as you add weight, comfort declines.

Though I suppose that’s true of most bags.

Dimensions and Capacity

Length: 19.5 inches (expandable to 25.5 inches)

Width: 12 inches

Depth: 11.5 inches

Main compartment: 32 liters

Total capacity: 33 liters (2,691 cubic inches)

Weight: about 3 pounds

Pros and Cons

Pros

Durable construction with heavy polyester fabric

Expandable main compartment adds flexibility

Multiple pockets help keep gear organized

Comfortable and strong carry handles

Rubber feet protect the bottom of the bag

Cons

No dedicated internal dividers for firearms

Water resistant but not waterproof

Final Thoughts on This Tactical Duffel

The Highland Tactical ELITE Tactical Duffel Bag proved to be a solid all-around gear bag. It works well as a range bag for carrying pistols and shooting gear, but it is versatile enough to handle travel, gym use, or emergency gear. At $52.25 (at time of publication) it’s a solid value given how durable it is. Our sample is black, but they also offer dark green/olive drab and desert/coyote color options.

The expandable design and useful pocket layout make it practical for a wide range of uses. If you are looking for a durable duffel that can handle range gear and still work for everyday hauling, this one is worth a look. For the same price, the Highland Tactical Winchester I reviewed about two years ago has a bit more organization by way of dedicated pockets on the sides, and mesh pockets inside. After two years, that bag still looks new.

If you spend time on the range, running power tools, or working outdoors, protecting your hearing is essential. Good electronic shooting ear muffs allow you to block harmful noise while still hearing conversations and environmental sounds. The AXIL MX PRO electronic hearing protection does exactly that, combining strong noise reduction with electronic amplification and Bluetooth audio.

I have used AXIL products for years. For example, the AXIL GSX 3.0 earbuds offer similar electronic hearing protection in a compact in-ear design. The MX PRO follows that same philosophy. It is designed for shooters, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone working around loud equipment who still needs situational awareness.

At the range, I shoot a lot of suppressed rimfire along with 9mm pistols, centerfire rifles, and the occasional 12 gauge. The AXIL MX PRO reduces the sharp report of each shot while still allowing normal conversation. I can hear friends talking and remain aware of what is happening around me.

Outside the range, the MX PRO works just as well during yard work or shop projects. Mowing the lawn or running power tools becomes far more comfortable, and Bluetooth audio lets you listen to music or podcasts while you work.

If you want to pick one up, you can get the AXIL MX PRO directly from AXIL. Use code INDUSTRYSAVES to save 15 percent.

What Is the AXIL MX PRO Electronic Hearing Protection?

The AXIL MX PRO is a set of electronic shooting ear muffs designed for shooting, power tools, and other loud environments. They combine traditional hearing protection with sound amplification technology that boosts safe sounds while suppressing harmful noise.

Bluetooth connectivity also allows audio streaming from a phone or other device, making them useful for both range sessions and everyday work.

Design and Comfort

The AXIL MX PRO is lighter than expected considering the electronics inside. The cushioned ear cups create a good seal without clamping too tightly, which makes them comfortable during long range sessions or extended yard work.

The adjustable headband helps fit a wide range of head sizes, and the overall construction feels durable enough for regular outdoor use.

Real World Performance

These electronic shooting ear muffs perform very well at the range. Rimfire, pistols, rifles, and even a 12 gauge are comfortably muffled. At the same time, the electronic amplification allows normal conversations and environmental sounds to remain clear.

Paired with a suppressor, PCCs and centerfire rifles are extremely comfortable to shoot, and the muffs still provide clear audio for conversations and steel impacts downrange.

The controls are straightforward, and the voice confirmation makes adjustments easy. Once set, you can focus on shooting instead of fiddling with settings.

AXIL MX PRO electronic hearing protection, replaceable outer plates.

Are the AXIL MX PRO muffs slim enough for shooting rifles?

One common issue with over-ear hearing protection is bulk. Large ear cups can interfere with getting a solid cheek weld on a rifle, especially when shooting prone or off a bench.

The AXIL MX PRO strikes a good balance here. The ear cups are padded and comfortable but not excessively bulky. While they are not ultra-low-profile competition muffs, I had no trouble maintaining a consistent cheek weld when shooting rifles.

They also seal well around shooting glasses and hats without creating pressure points. During several range sessions I found them comfortable for both pistol shooting and rifle work, including prone and bench shooting.

Is the AXIL MX PRO good for indoor ranges?

Yes. With a 30 dB noise reduction rating, the MX PRO provides strong protection for both indoor and outdoor shooting environments.

Can the AXIL MX PRO be used for yard work?

Absolutely. Tasks like mowing, running a chainsaw, or using power tools become much more comfortable while still allowing you to hear what is happening around you.

Battery, Connectivity, and Extras

The battery life is impressive. You can expect up to 70 hours when using hearing enhancement only. Bluetooth reduces runtime to around 40 hours, or about 30 hours when both systems are active.

Charging is handled through a USB-C port, which makes topping off the battery quick and convenient. Sleep mode automatically conserves power if the headset is left idle.

The MX PRO also allows customizable outer plates, giving users a simple way to personalize the look.

AXIL MX PRO vs AXIL TRACKR Blu

Several years ago, I reviewed the AXIL TRACKR Blu Tactical Ear Muffs, which were very popular at the time. They offered electronic hearing protection with Bluetooth audio and good comfort, which helped them stand out compared to many basic electronic muffs on the market.

The newer AXIL MX PRO builds on that idea with several improvements. The MX PRO increases the noise reduction rating to 30 dB, adds significantly longer battery life, and updates the Bluetooth system to version 5.4. USB-C charging is also a welcome upgrade compared to the older AAA battery setup used in the TRACKR Blu.

Both models provide solid situational awareness and good comfort, but the MX PRO feels like a more modern version of the same concept with improved convenience and performance. Shooters who liked the comfort and sound quality of the TRACKR Blu will likely find the MX PRO to be a natural upgrade.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Strong 30 dB hearing protection

Electronic amplification improves situational awareness

Bluetooth audio for music and calls

Long battery life with USB-C charging

Comfortable for extended use

Durable construction with customizable plates

Cons

Battery is not user-replaceable

Bluetooth supports a single device connection

Higher price than basic passive muffs

Who This Product Is For

The AXIL MX PRO is ideal for shooters who want hearing protection without losing situational awareness. It is also useful for homeowners who regularly run power tools or lawn equipment.

If you spend a lot of time around loud equipment or on the range, electronic hearing protection like the MX PRO can make a big difference in both comfort and safety.

Where to Buy

You can purchase the AXIL MX PRO directly from the manufacturer.

Check current pricing for the AXIL MX PRO here.

Use discount code INDUSTRYSAVES for 15 percent off your order.

Is it Worth It?

The AXIL MX PRO offers a strong combination of hearing protection, situational awareness, and Bluetooth audio. It works equally well on the shooting range, during yard work, or while using power tools.

If you want electronic shooting ear muffs that are comfortable, versatile, and easy to use, the MX PRO is a solid option.

FAQ

Does the AXIL MX PRO support Bluetooth audio?

Yes. The MX PRO supports Bluetooth 5.4 for music, podcasts, and phone calls.

How long does the AXIL MX PRO battery last?

Battery life ranges from about 70 hours using hearing enhancement only to roughly 30 hours when Bluetooth and enhancement are both active.

Is the AXIL MX PRO water-resistant?

Yes. The MX PRO is designed to resist dust, sweat, and light moisture.
The post AXIL MX PRO Review Electronic Hearing Protection Tested appeared first on Industry Outsider.

Some knives demand attention. In this Tekto A5 Spry Mini Automatic Knife review, I’m looking at a compact automatic knife that does the opposite. It disappears into a pocket until you need it, then deploys quickly and handles small everyday tasks with precision. With a 1.85-inch blade and a weight of about 2.15 ounces, the Spry Mini fits squarely into the micro-EDC category. Despite its small footprint, Tekto built it using premium materials, including titanium-coated S35VN blade steel and a lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum handle.

I’ve carried several Tekto knives over the years. For example, the Tekto F1 Alpha is a larger folding option that has been in my EDC rotation for a while. The Spry Mini takes the opposite approach, focusing on maximum portability while still offering automatic deployment. In daily use, the knife works well for typical light-duty tasks. Opening packages, cutting cord, trimming loose threads, and similar quick jobs are exactly what this compact automatic knife was built for.

Design and Build of the Tekto A5 Spry Mini Automatic Knife

The handle is made from 6061-T6 aluminum, which keeps the knife lightweight while maintaining good rigidity. There is no noticeable flex or rattle, and the slim profile helps the knife disappear into a pocket.

The blade uses titanium-coated S35VN steel, a premium steel known for strong edge retention and corrosion resistance. Combined with the compact frame, the overall result feels like a well-built micro-EDC rather than a novelty knife.

The base of the handle also includes a tungsten carbide glass breaker. While most owners may never need it, the feature adds emergency utility without increasing the knife’s compact size.

Tekto A5 Spry Mini with S35VN steel blade.

Deployment and Button Lock

The button lock mechanism is smooth and predictable. Pressing the button fires the blade open quickly, while retracting it feels equally controlled.

The tension strikes a good balance. It is firm enough to inspire confidence but not so stiff that it becomes annoying during regular use.

Blade Style Options

The A5 Spry Mini is available with three blade styles: dagger, drop point, and tanto.

The drop point is the most versatile for everyday cutting tasks. The tanto version offers a reinforced tip and a slightly more aggressive look. Meanwhile, the dagger emphasizes symmetry and aesthetics, though it may face additional legal restrictions depending on where you live.

Tekto A5 Spry Mini with tungsten glass breaker.

EDC Performance

In practical use, the Spry Mini handles typical everyday carry tasks without issue. Opening packages, cutting paracord, trimming loose threads, and preparing small items are all within its comfort zone.

The narrow 0.48-inch handle keeps it comfortable in the pocket, and the lightweight design means you may forget it is there until you need it. The ambidextrous pocket clip also makes it easy to carry in different positions.

Is the Tekto A5 Spry Mini Legal?

Blade length plays a role in knife legality in some areas. With a blade length of 1.85 inches, the Spry Mini may comply with certain state restrictions that apply to larger automatic knives.

However, knife laws vary widely depending on location. It is always best to check local regulations before carrying any automatic knife, especially if you choose the dagger blade style.

Conclusion

The Tekto A5 Spry Mini is a refined micro-EDC automatic knife that prioritizes portability without sacrificing quality. Premium steel, reliable deployment, and a lightweight frame make it easy to carry every day. Note that Tekto does include a simple sheath with this knife. I find it very basic, and just use the clip or pocket carry instead. It’s small enough that the sheath isn’t a concern.

If you prefer a slightly larger automatic knife, take a look at my Tekto A2 Badger review for comparison. The Spry Mini focuses on discretion and compact carry, while the Badger offers a bit more grip and cutting length.

For anyone looking for a compact automatic knife that still uses premium materials, the Spry Mini delivers an impressive balance of size, performance, and everyday practicality.

As always, I’d like to thank Tekto for providing their knife for my testing and evaluation.
The post Tekto A5 Spry Mini Review – Compact Automatic EDC Knife appeared first on Industry Outsider.

If you want a reliable Beretta 1301 reflex mount that also adds onboard ammo, the Mesa Tactical SureShell Carrier and Reflex Mount for the Beretta 1301 Tactical and A300 is a strong option. Instead of stacking a separate optic plate and shell carrier, this system combines both into one rigid unit. As a result, you gain speed, capacity, and durability without unnecessary bulk.

I have run this setup extensively on my Beretta 1301 Tactical. Over time, it became my preferred configuration. The red dot increases speed dramatically, yet the iron sights remain usable. At the same time, the extra rounds add practical value without changing the shotgun’s balance.

Mesa Tactical SureShell 1301 Reflex Mount.

Why Choose This 1301 Reflex Mount Over a Standard Optic Plate?

Many Beretta 1301 optic mounts simply provide a mounting surface for a micro red dot. However, they do nothing to increase capacity. The SureShell design solves two problems at once.

Because the shell carrier and optic mount share the same structure, the setup avoids stacking weight on top of weight. Consequently, the shotgun remains streamlined while still gaining six additional shells. For defensive use, competition, or training, that extra capacity matters.

Beretta 1301 Reflex Mount Installation

Installing this 1301 reflex mount is straightforward. You do not need a gunsmith. In fact, I completed the install with common hand tools in just a few minutes.

First, make sure the shotgun is unloaded and safe. Then remove the factory top rail from the Beretta 1301 Tactical. Next, align the SureShell mount with the factory-drilled holes in the receiver. Finally, secure it using the supplied screws.

Mesa Tactical SureShell 1301 Reflex Mount installed.

The mount locks down firmly without forcing anything into place. Once tightened, it feels solid and well integrated.

Mounting my Trijicon RMR was equally simple. A few minutes with a laser bore sighter made it range-ready. After that, I confirmed zero with live fire and made minor adjustments.

Overall, installation is clean and requires no permanent modification. In short, the mount fits precisely and holds securely once installed.

Mesa Tactical 1301 Optic Mount Design and Durability

This Beretta 1301 optic mount creates a rigid platform for a micro red dot. It’s fully secured against recoil. And it stays tight against the receiver even during repeated heavier loads.

The machining is clean, and the finish matches the shotgun well. More importantly, the unit feels purpose-built rather than aftermarket. In other words, it looks and performs like a factory solution.

Mesa Tactical SureShell 1301 Reflex Mount installed on a Beretta 1301 Tactical.

Beretta 1301 Optic Mount Performance at Distance

The biggest benefit of adding a red dot is speed. The dot allows faster transitions between targets, especially at mixed distances. For example, I can swing my Beretta 1301 Tactical from close steel to distant targets without searching for the front sight.

Because the dot remains centered in the window, the sight picture stays consistent. As a result, target engagement feels controlled and predictable. Even when transitioning between widely spaced targets, the rhythm stays the same.

Despite the added mount and carrier, handling remains balanced. The additional weight is negligible in practical use. Recoil control also stays consistent.

Detail shot of the Mesa Tactical SureShell Beretta 1301 Reflex Mount.

1301 Reflex Mount Holds Zero Under Heavy Use

I have run plenty of heavier rounds through this setup. Even so, the optic continues to hold zero. The mount does not shift or loosen.

That consistency builds long-term confidence. When a defensive or competition shotgun keeps its zero after repeated recoil cycles, you stop thinking about the mount and focus on shooting.

Maintains Use of Factory Iron Sights

One of the most important features of this Beretta 1301 reflex mount is that it preserves the factory iron sights. If the optic fails, the irons remain immediately usable. Therefore, the system keeps mechanical backup without additional parts or adapters.

Mesa Tactical SureShell Beretta 1301 Reflex Mount.

Integrated Six-Shell Carrier Design

The built-in SureShell carrier holds six extra rounds directly on the receiver. Because it shares the same structure as the optic mount, the setup avoids unnecessary width or bulk.

Mesa Tactical uses a rubber friction system that secures shells firmly while still allowing smooth removal. Not only is the tubing replaceable, but Mesa Tactical will send replacements upon request.

My stock already holds five rounds. Consequently, adding six more at the receiver significantly increases available reload capacity without resorting to bulky external solutions.

Final Thoughts on the Mesa Tactical SureShell 1301 Reflex Mount

Overall, this Beretta 1301 reflex mount improves speed, versatility, and onboard capacity in one clean solution. The red dot enhances target acquisition at varying distances. Meanwhile, the iron sights remain available as backup. In addition, the integrated carrier adds meaningful capacity without compromising handling.

If you want a durable Beretta 1301 optic mount that installs easily and holds zero under recoil, the Mesa Tactical SureShell system delivers.

You can find it directly at MesaTactical.com or through major retailers such as MidwayUSA.

As always, I’d like to thank Mesa Tactical for providing this mount for testing and evaluation.
The post Mesa Tactical SureShell 1301 Reflex Mount Review appeared first on Industry Outsider.

TandemKross Eagle’s Talon Extractor Review for Ruger PC Carbine & PC Charger

I’ve run a huge amount of bulk 9mm ammo through my Ruger PC Carbine and PC Charger over the years. Both platforms have been reliable, predictable, and boring in the best possible way. However, now that I’m running them suppressed thanks to the $0 tax stamp, my round count has increased significantly. And suppressed blowback changes how extraction behaves.

More backpressure pushes additional carbon into the action. Consequently, the chamber gets dirty faster. And the bolt face stays fouled longer. Now the extractor has to work harder to pull cases free. For that reason, I installed the TandemKross Eagle’s Talon Extractor in both the Ruger PC Carbine and the PC Charger.

Why Upgrade the Ruger PC Carbine Extractor?

The factory extractor works. In fact, for most shooters, it works fine. That said, reliability margins shrink when you stack variables such as higher round counts, suppressed shooting, and bulk ammo. Eventually, extraction becomes a wear item rather than an afterthought.

Extraction is one of those components you never think about until cases start sticking or ejection weakens. When that happens, the extractor is almost always the first place to look. The Eagle’s Talon is machined from hardened tool steel and features a sharper, more aggressive hook profile. As a result, it provides stronger engagement on the case rim, especially in dirty conditions.

Factory Ruger PC Carbine & PC Charger extractor on top, TandemKross Eagle’s Talon Extractor on bottom.

Suppressed Shooting Changes the Equation

Shooting suppressed increases backpressure in a blowback system like the Ruger PC Carbine and PC Charger. Over time, this extra pressure accelerates fouling and adds stress to the extractor. In practice, you’re operating outside the baseline the rifle was originally tuned for.

Faster chamber fouling

Heavier carbon buildup on the bolt face

Reduced extraction margin in dirty conditions

Because these variables compound, the extractor has less margin for error. Therefore, I’m not chasing a malfunction; I’m preventing one before it occurs. Being proactive pays dividends when it comes to efficient range time too.

Installation on the Ruger PC Carbine & PC Charger

Installation is straightforward if you’re comfortable disassembling the bolt. The PC Carbine and PC Charger are loosely based on the Ruger 10/22 design. However, Ruger simplified the system even further, which makes these guns remarkably easy to work on.

The extractor drops into the factory location and uses the OEM spring and plunger. No fitting is required on either platform. Simply push the rear pin out from the underside of the bolt (it’s the smaller one in the top view), remove the factory extractor, install the new one, align the hole, and reinstall the pin. The function check was immediate and clean. Total install time with two additional parts was under ten minutes.

Ruger PC Carbine & PC Charger bolt with TandemKross Eagle’s Talon Extractor installed.

Compatibility with the Ruger PC Charger

The Ruger PC Charger uses the same bolt design as the Ruger PC Carbine. Therefore, the Eagle’s Talon Extractor is fully compatible with both platforms. If you own either model, this upgrade applies equally.

Ruger PC Charger with TandemKross Eagle’s Talon Extractor installed.

Range Performance

Most of my shooting consists of bulk range ammo from 115gr to 147gr. It’s affordable, consistent, and what these guns see the most. Even with the suppressor mounted, ejection remained strong and uniform. Cases cleared cleanly, and the pattern stayed predictable. There was no hesitation and no weak dribbling of cases.

Importantly, I wasn’t correcting a malfunction. Instead, I was reinforcing reliability as round counts climb. Moreover, with reloading on the horizon, maintaining consistent extraction becomes even more important. I don’t want to chase my empties all over a Utah hillside. A tidy pile of empties makes me happy.

Ruger PC Carbine with TandemKross Eagle’s Talon Extractor installed.

Is This Upgrade Necessary?

For a low round count shooter running unsuppressed, it’s probably not urgent. On the other hand, some shooters push thousands of rounds. Many also run suppressed. Others simply want stronger extraction insurance. For them, this is a practical, preventative upgrade. Extractor upgrades are inexpensive compared to downtime or troubleshooting at the range.

Final Thoughts

The Ruger PC Carbine and PC Charger are extremely reliable platforms. That said, suppressed use accelerates fouling and wear over time. The TandemKross Eagle’s Talon Extractor improves extraction in a blowback system. As round count increases, that reinforcement becomes increasingly valuable.

If you’re running your platform hard — especially suppressed — this is a small upgrade that helps keep the gun boring and dependable.

As always, I’d like to thank TandemKross for providing the Eagle’s Talon Extractor for testing and evaluation.

If you want a durable rechargeable flashlight for your truck, car, or emergency kit, the Coast XP20R is worth a serious look. It delivers high brightness, long runtime, and handy features in a compact package. In addition, it offers USB-C charging and power bank capability, which makes it especially useful during emergencies.

I spent several weeks testing the XP20R in real-world conditions. Overall, it delivers strong performance, practical features, and excellent value for the price.

Coast XP20R Features

The Coast XP20R packs several great features into a compact design. First, it includes a rechargeable battery and supports direct USB-C charging. As a result, keeping the light ready is simple.

In addition, the flashlight can charge external devices. A second port allows you to top off your phone or other electronics during an emergency. This feature adds real utility during power outages or roadside situations.

USB-C input and output ports on the Coast XP20R flashlight.

Four LED indicators show battery status at a glance. Because of this, you always know how much charge remains.

The XP20R also uses Coast’s Pure Beam Focusing Optic. This system transitions smoothly from a wide flood beam to a focused spot beam. A simple push adjusts the beam, while a twist locks it in place. Therefore, you can quickly adapt the light for different tasks.

Finally, the IP54 rating protects the internal components from dust and water splashes. This makes the light suitable for outdoor use and rough conditions.

What’s Included in the Package?

The package includes the Coast XP20R flashlight and some important accessories. It comes with a 5000 mAh Coast ZX955 Zithion-X rechargeable battery and a USB-C charging cable.

You can charge the battery inside or outside the flashlight. In addition, Coast includes an insert that allows the use of three AAA batteries. Therefore, you still have power even if recharging is not possible.

PURE BEAM OPTIC on the Coast XP20R flashlight.

Coast XP20R Specifications

The XP20R measures 7.5 inches long. It feels substantial but remains easy to handle. The aluminum body keeps weight reasonable while providing durability.

Moon Glow: 60 lumens

Low: 380 lumens

Medium: 1,300 lumens

High: 2,300 lumens

Turbo: 4,000 lumens (short burst)

Runtime varies by output level. Moon Glow runs up to 50 hours, while Low runs 15 hours. Meanwhile, Medium runs 4 hours and 15 minutes, and High runs 2 hours and 45 minutes. Turbo mode is designed for short bursts, so Coast does not list a runtime.

Beam distance ranges from 72 feet on Moon Glow to about 465 feet on High. Turbo briefly extends reach to 623 feet.

Coast XP20R flashlight.

Testing the Coast XP20R

Charging and Setup

Before testing, I charged the flashlight overnight. The battery indicators showed a full charge the next morning. Charging was simple, and the USB-C connection felt secure. In addition, the indicator lights made it easy to check battery status at a glance.

Flood Beam Performance

I started testing in my neighborhood, which has minimal street lighting. On the widest setting, the Ultra View Flood beam lights up a large area quickly. For example, it easily illuminated my street, driveway, and a nearby park.

Because of its wide coverage, the flood beam works well for searching, walking, or campsite use. The light spreads evenly across the ground with very little dark spotting.

Flood beam setting on the Coast XP20R flashlight.

Spot Beam Performance

Switching to the BULLS-EYE Spot Beam produces a more focused beam. However, the beam still includes a soft halo around the center. As a result, the XP20R works best as a general-purpose light rather than a dedicated long-distance spotlight.

Even so, the focused beam provides clear visibility at distance and works well for most outdoor tasks.

Zoom head for spot beam on the Coast XP20R flashlight.

Handling and Battery Performance of the Coast XP20R

The aluminum body feels solid and well-balanced in the hand. In addition, the textured surface provides a secure grip. During extended use, the light became warm on higher settings but never uncomfortable.

Battery performance remained consistent throughout testing. The light maintained stable brightness, and the power bank feature successfully charged a phone during testing.

Overall, the XP20R performed well for emergencies, vehicle carry, camping, and general outdoor use.

Pros and Cons

What I Like

Strong brightness with multiple output levels

Rechargeable battery with USB-C charging

Power bank capability for charging devices

Long runtime on lower settings

Durable construction

Good value for the price

At a current MSRP of $65.99, the XP20R offers excellent value. Because it includes a rechargeable battery, you avoid buying disposable batteries. In addition, the ability to charge a phone during emergencies adds real usefulness.

What Could Be Better About The Coast XP20R

Light starts on high instead of low

Power button is difficult to feel with gloves

The recessed power button can be hard to locate by touch. With gloves on, it becomes even more difficult to find. While this is not a major issue, a more tactile button would improve usability.

Final Thoughts

The Coast XP20R is a practical and capable flashlight. It delivers strong output, long runtime, and useful features at a fair price. More importantly, it provides reliable performance for everyday and emergency use.

If you need a dependable rechargeable flashlight for your vehicle, emergency kit, or outdoor gear, the XP20R offers excellent value and versatility.

If you want to add an Arca rail to your Magpul Pro 700 stock, this adapter makes it easy. The Magpul M-LOK Dovetail Adapter adds an RRS/Arca mounting surface to your rifle. As a result, you can mount to a tripod faster, adjust balance easily, and improve stability.

Many shooters search for a simple way to run tripod support on the Pro 700 chassis. Fortunately, this full-length rail solves that problem. It installs quickly and gives you more control over your rifle setup.

Magpul Pro 700 Arca Rail.

What Is the Magpul Pro 700 Arca Rail?

The full name is the Magpul M-LOK Dovetail Adapter – Pro Stock Full Rail for RRS/ARCA Interface. However, most shooters refer to it as the Magpul Pro 700 Arca rail. It mounts to the bottom of the Pro 700 chassis and provides a full-length Arca-style dovetail.

Once installed, this $74.95 (at time of publication) rail lets you mount tripods, reposition bipods, and adjust rifle balance. In other words, you gain more flexibility without changing your rifle setup.

Magpul Pro 700 Arca Rail mounted to a tripod.

Why Add an Arca Rail to the Magpul Pro 700?

Precision shooters want stability and control. Therefore, many upgrade their chassis with an Arca rail. A full-length rail allows smooth fore-aft adjustment. Because of this, you can balance the rifle for different shooting positions.

In addition, Arca systems allow fast equipment changes. For example, you can switch between tripod and bipod support in seconds. You can also move accessories without tools. As a result, your setup becomes faster and more flexible.

For competition shooters and hunters, these benefits matter. Better balance improves stability. Faster adjustments also help during timed stages or changing field conditions.

Magpul Pro 700 Arca Rail photo courtesy of Magpul.

Magpul Arca Rail Features

Full-length RRS/Arca-compatible dovetail

M-LOK mounting system

Precision-machined aluminum construction

Low-profile design

Adjustable bipod and tripod positioning

Designed for the Magpul Pro 700 chassis

The rail adds capability without adding bulk. Because of its low-profile design, it fits cleanly on the rifle.

Installation of the Magpul Pro 700 Arca Rail

Installation is simple. First, attach the adapter to the M-LOK slots using the included hardware. Next, tighten the fasteners evenly. Most shooters can complete the process in minutes.

Once installed, the rail stays locked in place. The mounting system prevents movement under recoil. As a result, the rifle maintains a consistent mounting surface.

Performance on the Range

At the range, the Magpul Pro 700 Arca rail provides more flexibility. Tripod mounting becomes fast and secure. Meanwhile, bipod placement becomes easier to adjust.

Because the rail runs the length of the chassis, you can fine-tune rifle balance. This improves stability in supported positions. It also helps you change positions faster during training or competition.

The rail remains secure under recoil. In addition, it provides a consistent interface for accessories. Overall, it expands what the Pro 700 chassis can do.

Magpul Pro 700 Arca Rail at the range.

Who Should Use the Magpul Pro 700 Arca Rail?

This upgrade works best for shooters who want more control and flexibility. It is especially useful for:

Precision rifle competitors

Long-range shooters

Hunters using tripod support

Shooters running Arca-compatible accessories

If you already use tripod shooting techniques, this upgrade makes sense. Likewise, it helps anyone who wants better rifle balance.

Final Thoughts

The Magpul Pro 700 Arca rail adds modern mounting capability to the Pro 700 chassis. It installs quickly and improves stability. More importantly, it gives shooters more flexibility when using tripods or bipods.

If you run a Magpul Pro 700 stock, this upgrade expands what your rifle can do. It offers a simple way to improve performance in supported shooting positions.

The Mesa Tactical SureShell Carrier and Rail provides on-receiver ammo storage and a Picatinny rail in one system. Because of this, it is one of the most practical upgrades for the platform. If you want a more capable Shockwave, this upgrade is an easy way to get there. After testing this Mossberg Shockwave shell carrier, I’ve found increased utility and (a bonus!) reduced recoil.

Why Add a Mossberg Shockwave Shell Carrier?

The Mossberg Shockwave is compact and powerful. However, it lacks built-in shell storage and accessory mounting options. A Mossberg Shockwave shell carrier solves both problems.

Keeps extra shells on the gun

Adds a full-length Picatinny rail

As a result, the Shockwave becomes more practical for defensive or range use. The added weight also helps to tame the recoil a bit, which is an unintended benefit.

Mesa Tactical SureShell Build and Materials

Mesa Tactical offers this Mossberg Shockwave shell carrier in two versions. One uses a 6061-T6 aluminum yoke. The other uses a polymer yoke. This allows shooters to choose between maximum durability or reduced weight.

The aluminum model uses a Santoprene elastomer retention system. It holds shells securely and resists wear. In contrast, the polymer version uses a dual rubber friction system. It also provides strong retention while keeping weight down.

The integrated rail is a hard-anodized MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail. It accepts optics, lights, or lasers. Overall, both versions feel solid and well-built.

The Mesa Tactical SureShell Carrier and Rail for Mossberg Shockwave.

Capacity and Compatibility

This Mossberg Shockwave shell carrier is designed specifically for the 14-inch Shockwave platform. Depending on the model, it holds four or six shells.

The integrated rail adds more than storage. It also provides a stable mounting platform for accessories. Because of this, the firearm becomes far more useful.

Installing the Mossberg Shockwave Shell Carrier

Installation is simple. After verifying that your firearm is unloaded, slide the barrel clamp onto the barrel and over the barrel ring. The carrier uses the factory-drilled and tapped receiver holes. A mounting cleat goes on top of the receiver, using those existing holes. Attach the entire rail assembly to the cleat, using the included hardware. Align the barrel clamp. This may require tapping with a dowel or brass rod. Once aligned, attach the carrier to the clamp.

Mesa Tactical SureShell Carrier and Rail for Mossberg Shockwave barrel clamp.

Mesa Tactical products are designed for ease of installation at home. No major gunsmithing is required. However, proper alignment and correct torque are important. The aluminum backplate keeps the system secure once installed. Additionally, most users can complete the installation quickly with basic tools. Immediately after installation, I topped it off with a Viridian RFX25, which is a green dot with a nice, wide window.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-30890" src="https://industryoutsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/MG_0270.webp" alt="Mesa Tactical SureShell Carrier and Rail for Mossberg Shockwave mounting cleat.

Function and Range Performance

At the range, this Mossberg Shockwave shell carrier improves both speed and convenience. With Mesa’s full-length rail, my optic is positioned for optimum situational awareness. That big 20×28 window and bright green dot are easy for my eyes to pick up. So it’s just a matter of putting the dot on my target and pulling the trigger.

Viridian RFX25 on the Mesa Tactical SureShell Carrier and Rail for Mossberg Shockwave.

The rail and hardware add nearly a pound (14.9 ounces, not including ammo or optic), which certainly changes the felt recoil a bit. That alone would probably make this a worthwhile upgrade for some shooters. Add in the option to mount a weapon light, and the Shockwave becomes a more capable defensive platform.

Having shells on the receiver makes reloads a bit faster if you put in the time to practice. Running drills at home with dummy rounds, then refining on the range is something I need to do more. My issue is that I’ve had to mount my rounds brass up in previous carriers, for extra security. The SureShell carrier is much more secure, so I’ll be able to mount them brass down, for easier loading. During testing, the retention system held shells securely under recoil. Nothing shifted or loosened.

Durability and Long-Term Use

The aluminum yoke is extremely rugged and handles heavy use well. In fact, it is the better choice for hard or frequent use. Meanwhile, the polymer version saves weight while still offering good durability. While the lack of compatibility with my Magpul forend is a disappointment, Mesa Tactical is addressing that with a new (not yet released) forend.

The retention system uses rubber components. Over time, rubber may wear. However, Mesa Tactical replaces the tubing at no charge. The company also backs the product with a lifetime warranty.

Drawbacks

Adds weight and bulk to the firearm

Accessories on the rail increase size further

Rubber retention parts may wear with heavy use

Not currently compatible with the Magpul forend

Even so, most users will find these tradeoffs minor.

Verdict: Is This Mossberg Shockwave Shell Carrier Worth It?

This Mossberg Shockwave shell carrier improves both function and versatility. You get extra ammunition capacity and a mounting platform in one upgrade.

Overall, the Mesa Tactical SureShell system is practical, durable, and well-designed. If you want a more capable Shockwave for defense or range use, this upgrade makes a clear difference. Check it out along with their other excellent products at MesaTactical.com.

As always, I’d like to thank Mesa Tactical for sending their Mossberg Shockwave shell carrier and rail for my testing and evaluation.

DryFireMag for Sig P365: Hands-On Review

The DryFireMag for Sig P365 is the ultimate dry fire training magazine designed to let you practice trigger control, grip, sight alignment, and presentation without racking the slide. For concealed carry shooters, competition shooters, and anyone who wants to improve muscle memory with a Sig P365, this tool offers uninterrupted repetitions that mimic live fire. If you’ve ever wondered how to dry fire your Sig P365 without cycling the slide, this review covers every detail.

Why Dry Fire Training Matters for Sig P365 Owners

Dry fire practice is one of the most effective ways to build consistency with a striker-fired pistol. Traditional dry fire with a P365 requires racking the slide after every trigger press, which can break rhythm and reduce training efficiency. The $98.99 DryFireMag for Sig P365 eliminates this issue, providing a resetting trigger mechanism that keeps your training focused and uninterrupted. This is especially valuable for concealed carry shooters looking to reinforce proper draw, trigger press, and follow-through at home.

What Is the DryFireMag for Sig P365?

The DryFireMag is a dedicated dry fire magazine for the Sig P365. It replaces your standard magazine during practice and uses a spring-loaded mechanism to reset the trigger after each press. This allows multiple trigger pulls without manipulating the slide, letting shooters focus on fundamentals like trigger control, sight alignment, grip, and presentation.

DryFireMag in a Sig P365.

This model is specifically designed for the Sig P365 platform and drops in like a standard magazine. DryFireMags are also available for select pistols from Glock, Palmetto State Armory, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, and Springfield Armory. No permanent modifications are required, and you can return to live-fire configuration simply by removing the DryFireMag. The platform-specific design ensures reliable engagement with the trigger bar and consistent performance during dry fire sessions.

How the DryFireMag for Sig P365 Works

Once installed, the DryFireMag engages the trigger bar and provides realistic resistance during trigger presses. After the trigger breaks, the internal mechanism automatically resets it, allowing continuous repetitions without racking the slide. For shooters performing draw-to-first-shot drills, target transitions, and movement-based dry fire, this uninterrupted practice mirrors real-world handling.

Pairing the DryFireMag with a laser or feedback system like the Mantis X10 Shooting Performance System adds performance tracking, making dry fire sessions even more effective.

Trigger Feel and Training Value of the DryFireMag P365

While not an exact analog of live fire, the DryFireMag for Sig P365 provides a consistent trigger break and positive reset that reinforce proper trigger mechanics. It helps shooters eliminate trigger jerk, improve straight-to-the-rear press, and maintain sight alignment through each repetition.

For competitive shooters and concealed carry users, the DryFireMag allows high-volume dry fire sessions that improve muscle memory, confidence, and follow-through without causing wear on the firearm from repeated slide manipulation.

Installation and Compatibility of DryFireMag P365

Installing the DryFireMag is simple: it inserts like a standard magazine and requires no tools. Two spacers are included for different frame sizes. Select the appropriate one, slide it over the DryFireMag, and pop it into your magwell. Because it’s designed specifically for the Sig P365, it ensures proper fit and function. Minor adjustments allow you to fine-tune trigger resistance and feel, and the included instructions make customization straightforward.

Always ensure your pistol is unloaded and all live ammunition is removed from the training area before use.

DryFireMag vs Traditional Dry Fire for Sig P365

Traditional dry fire for a striker-fired pistol like the P365 requires cycling the slide after each trigger pull. This interrupts training rhythm, makes high-repetition drills harder, and can introduce subtle bad habits. The DryFireMag removes these barriers, allowing continuous trigger presses with your actual carry gun. It supports realistic concealed carry practice with normal grip, sights, and holster setup, saving both time and ammunition.

By itself, it’s a great tool for practicing your draw and firing. Combined with the Mantis X10 system, it’s a solid option for advancing your skills. It doesn’t replace live fire, but it helps refine all your movements. For most of us, it’s not feasible to spend hours at the range each week focusing on our draw and that first shot. Now we have a way to build skills at home, which supplements our range time – best of both worlds.

Running Drills with the DryFireMag

I ran plenty of drills to draw, acquire my target, and pull the trigger. The DryFireMag functions flawlessly for that. And because I can do it over and over without cycling the slide, it doesn’t break my rhythm. This makes my training time more efficient without introducing the need to rack the slide.

DryFireMag comes equipped with a small rail section on the base.

By attaching my Mantis X10 to the rail section on the bottom of the DryFireMag, I can get instant feedback and measurable results. Where I was limited to one shot before, I can now do strings of shots at one or more targets. Previously, the only way to accomplish that was to practice with a hammer-fired DA/SA pistol. While helpful, that wasn’t my EDC pistol. I’ve now got the most realistic setup possible for at-home use.

Who Should Buy a DryFireMag for Sig P365

Sig P365 owners who dry fire regularly

Concealed carry shooters focused on trigger control and presentation

Competitive shooters looking to increase dry fire efficiency

New shooters building fundamentals at home

Shooters pairing the P365 with laser or feedback training systems

If you rarely dry fire, the value may be limited. For shooters who train consistently or want to build better habits with their carry gun, the DryFireMag can quickly become a staple part of a dry fire routine.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-30842" src="https://industryoutsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/MG_0371.webp" alt="DryFireMag in a holstered Sig P365 with Mantis X10 installed.
The GRITR Gun CLP Spray is the foundation of the GRITR Gun Care lineup. It combines cleaning, lubrication, and corrosion protection into one product. As a result, it works well for regular maintenance after range sessions. Pricing runs $9.99 for the 2oz, $13.99 for the 4oz, and $17.99 for the big value 8oz bottle.

This CLP removes carbon, lead, copper, and general fouling. At the same time, it leaves behind a light protective film that helps prevent rust. Unlike harsher solvents, it does not feel overly greasy. Additionally, the mild citrus scent makes cleaning much more pleasant. Seriously. As someone who grew up on “No. 9” cleaner, this is just so much nicer.

GRITR Gun CLP Spray.

GRITR Gun Care designed this CLP to be safe on common firearm materials. It works on metal, polymer, wood, and coated finishes. Therefore, it can be used across pistols, rifles, and shotguns without concern. Though if you have an expensive finish, it’s always recommended to test an inconspicuous spot first. The spray pattern also allows for controlled application, which helps avoid waste.

GRITR Gun Synthetic Grease

While the CLP handles general lubrication, the GRITR Gun Synthetic Grease focuses on high-friction areas. These include slide rails, bolt carriers, locking lugs, and choke tube threads. In those locations, grease offers better protection than oil alone. And it’s ideal for keeping small springs in place. Looking at you, CZ 457 trigger spring!

This synthetic grease stays where it is applied. It does not run or thin out during use. Because of that, it performs well in both cold and hot conditions. The precision applicator also allows for clean, targeted placement.

GRITR Gun Synthetic Grease.

For shooters who consistently put high round counts through their firearms, GRITR Gun Care grease helps reduce long-term wear. Over time, this can improve smoothness and component life. A 0.5-oz syringe runs $11.99, and will probably last me a year or more, since such a tiny dab is all that’s required for most applications.

Using GRITR Gun Care as a System

These GRITR Gun Care products can be used together or separately. I find they complement each other well in many applications.

First, clean the firearm with the CLP spray. This step removes residue while adding light lubrication and corrosion protection. A quick wipe down and reapplication may be necessary in some cases. Next, apply the synthetic grease to areas that see the most metal-on-metal contact. As a result, critical parts stay protected under recoil and heat.

This two-step approach keeps lubrication controlled. It also prevents excess buildup. Therefore, firearms stay cleaner and run more smoothly. Note that rimfire, especially when shooting suppressed, is extremely dirty. Semi-autos will generally require more frequent cleaning than revolvers and bolt action rifles.

Real-World Use and Hands-On Impressions

During my evaluation, I primarily used the GRITR Gun CLP Spray on several rimfire pistols. These guns see high round counts every week, and most of that shooting is suppressed. As you’d expect, they get filthy fast.

Ruger Mark IV lower, before applying GRITR Gun CLP Spray.

A quick spray, a few passes with cotton swabs, and they were clean again. The CLP cut through carbon and fouling without much effort, which is exactly what I want when cleaning multiple pistols in one session.

I saw similar results on my 9mm pistols. The CLP worked well for routine cleaning and light lubrication, without leaving everything overly wet or sticky.

For lubrication, I used the GRITR Gun Synthetic Grease on slide rails and contact points. The grease spreads easily and stays where it’s applied. It noticeably smooths out the action without attracting debris, which matters on pistols that get frequent range time.

Ruger Mark IV lower, after cleaning with GRITR Gun CLP Spray.

The grease also came in handy during a recent CZ 457 trigger upgrade. It helped hold a small spring in place during installation – a simple detail, but one that made the job easier. I’ll get into that upgrade in a future article.

Final Thoughts

GRITR Gun Care products focus on function rather than marketing hype. The CLP spray handles everyday cleaning efficiently. Meanwhile, the synthetic grease adds durability where oil alone is not enough.

Together, these GRITR Gun Care products create a simple and effective maintenance routine. You spend less time cleaning and more time shooting. For recreational shooters, competitors, and anyone who values reliability, this combination makes practical sense.

I appreciate GRITR for making these products available for testing. Any opinions shared here reflect my own experience using them.
Looking for Beretta 1301 Tactical upgrades? Midwest Industries offers a stock, M-LOK handguard, and shell holder that improve ergonomics, durability, and modularity. I recently picked up a 1301, and though it’s an excellent shotgun, I realized a few changes were in order. While the factory furniture works, the polymer stock and hollow-feeling forend with aggressive texture can be uncomfortable without gloves. The addition of a few select components improves handling and performance for range, tactical drills, or defensive setups.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-30749" src="https://industryoutsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_0182.webp" alt="Beretta 1301 Tactical, before being upgraded.
Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades: Midwest Industries Stock

The Midwest Industries Beretta 1301 stock replaces the factory polymer unit with a 6061-T6 aluminum backbone, textured grip panels, and an adjustable polymer cheek piece for a more consistent optic sight picture. It’s ambidextrous, has QD sling sockets, and allows length-of-pull adjustments with spacers. The optional shell-holder plate adds an extra five rounds onboard.

Midwest Industries stock for the Beretta 1301 Tactical.

Stock Features and Benefits – Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades

Better ergonomics than factory polymer

Predictable cheek weld with optics

Improved recoil management

Multiple sling mounting options

Compatible with Midwest Industries shell-holder plate

Midwest Industries stock for the Beretta 1301 Tactical.

Installation Notes:

My notes and photos are only intended to supplement the excellent stock installation instructions provided by Midwest Industries. Be sure your firearm is unloaded before starting. Check twice. As with most shotguns, two screws hold the recoil pad in place. Remove them, then remove the factory stock. Carefully install the adapter using the special screw supplied with the stock kit. Tighten to 40 in/lbs.

Attach the grip to the adapter with the provided hardware. These six screws should be tightened to 10 in/lbs.

At this point, you can slide the stock into the grip and attach it with the four supplied screws. They get snugged to 10 in/lbs as well. Last step is to install the grip panels, which only need a gentle amount of torque.

Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades: M-LOK Handguard

Overview:

The Midwest Industries Beretta 1301 aluminum M-LOK handguard is a big upgrade from the stock polymer forend. At 12.2 oz, it’s lightweight, fully dehorned, and provides modular mounting options for lights, QD slings, or grips. All those M-LOK slots make it easy to find the perfect location for whatever accessories you need to mount. And it fits both Mod 1 and Mod 2 1301 Tactical shotguns.

Midwest Industries M-LOK handguard for the Beretta 1301 Tactical.

Handguard Features and Benefits – Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades

True M-LOK modularity

More durable than hollow polymer

Improved grip and ergonomics

Better heat resistance during range use

Ideal platform for lights, slings, and accessories

Midwest Industries M-LOK handguard for the Beretta 1301 Tactical.

Installation Notes:

Again, Midwest Industries supplies great instructions for installing their Beretta 1301 Tactical handguard. Uninstall the factory 1301 handguard by removing the barrel clamp and nut that’s on top of the magazine tube. Then pull out the front tension collar by sliding the O-ring to the rear and removing it. Insert the tension collar into the MI front ring, making sure the raised boss aligns with the slot, then reinstall the O-ring.

Fit the front ring into the MI handguard with the tension post facing forward. Degrease the screws, apply Vibra-Tite, and torque them evenly to 30 in-lbs. Finally, install the MI handguard onto the shotgun. Note that Midwest Industries offers a spare O-ring for $1.99 – save yourself some stress and include that with your order, just in case.

Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades: Shell Holder Plate

Overview:

This anodized aluminum plate with polymer carrier holds five 12-gauge shells directly on your MI stock. It’s lightweight (~3.8 oz) and keeps reloads fast without adding bulk.

Midwest Industries M-LOK shell holder for the Beretta 1301 Tactical.

Shell Holder Features and Benefits – Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades

Immediate access to five spare shells

Faster reloads during drills or defense

Minimal footprint, snag-free

Reliable retention

Lightweight and unobtrusive

Installation Notes

As this attaches via M-LOK to the stock, there’s no need to go into detail on the installation.

Range Time After Installation

Handling & Ergonomics – Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades

I’ve got big hands, and the width of the handguard is ideal for me. It’s not super wide, but no one is going to refer to it as “slim” either. There’s plenty of traction available, too. I also found the grip on the stock to be very ergonomic, though I will probably upgrade the grip inserts with the G10 versions. The adjustable cheek piece ensures a perfect cheek weld with the irons. In the future, I’ll be adding an optic that will co-witness with the factory sights, so that alignment is critical.

Recoil & Control

The big surprise was the Midwest Industries butt pad. Recoil has been a mixed bag – the 1301 weighs less than a similar pump action, but the gas system mitigates recoil a bit. Well, that butt pad softens 00 buckshot to the point where my wallet may give up before my shoulder does. I can shoot a lot more before my shoulder gets tender. Grip and technique play a role in felt recoil, but the butt pad makes a noticeable difference. Overall, shooting my 1301 is a much better experience with these upgrades.

Heat & Comfort – Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades

If there’s a downside, it’s that being able to shoot more means a hotter barrel. So a heat shield has been added to my shopping list. I can work around it for now, but this underscores the give and take of a pump vs semi-auto. With the pump action, you’re probably shooting a bit slower, so less heat. You’re also working the pump, so your support hand isn’t likely to touch the barrel. A semi-auto can shoot faster, and your hand isn’t tied to the pump, which introduces the risk of burns if you’re not wearing gloves.

This also plays into my decision to defer adding a light to my shotgun right now. I need to install my heat shield first, so I can figure out the routing for a light switch, if necessary.

Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades: Final Thoughts

These Beretta 1301 Tactical upgrades from Midwest Industries improve ergonomics, durability, and modularity. Out of the box, it’s already an excellent shotgun. And while I’m not averse to polymer, I prefer the adjustability of the aluminum stock and the M-LOK options of the handguard. It fits me better, handles better, and the felt recoil is reduced. Note that they also offer the stock for the Remington 870, Mossberg 590, Benelli M4, as well as Marlin lever action rifles.

As always, I’d like to thank Midwest Industries for supplying their high-quality parts for my testing and evaluation.
The post Beretta 1301 Tactical Upgrades – Midwest Industries appeared first on Industry Outsider.

The Craft Holsters OWB Leather Belt Holster is the newest addition to my CZ 75 setup, and after spending some time with it, I’m impressed by how well it balances comfort, retention, and classic leather craftsmanship. I’ve used plenty of Kydex over the years, but there’s something about a well-made leather holster that just feels right – especially on a full-size steel pistol like the CZ 75.

In this review, I’ll cover fit, comfort, draw, retention, and everyday usability to help you decide if this OWB leather option from Craft Holsters is worth adding to your carry rotation. Note that this particular model is for the CZ 75 B and Omega variants. Craft Holsters offers custom-made holsters for just about any handgun you might have.

Holster Specifications

At its core, this is a traditional OWB holster designed for 4 o’clock carry with a slight forward cant. That design makes the draw feel natural while still keeping the pistol tucked close to the body. The holster is molded specifically for the CZ 75, so the fit is snug right out of the box.

First Impressions and Fit

My time in the outdoor industry has made me a bit obsessive about quality. So the first thing I checked was the stitching, as that’s usually a good sign of craftsmanship. With a single row of stitching around the outside and perfectly spaced double rows of stitching around the pistol, it passes the quality test. All the exposed edges are smooth and treated with a chocolate brown finish that goes well with the walnut leather.

You can see that the holster is molded into a slight curve for a better fit on the hip. And the belt slots are spaced far enough apart to keep the holster locked in place, even when carrying a heavier all-metal pistol. The molding is also very precise. My CZ 75 seats cleanly with that satisfying “this is the right spot” feeling you want from good leather.

Craft Holsters OWB leather holster molded for the CZ 75.

There is a short break-in period, which is normal for anything made from real leather. It took a bit of convincing to get my pistol in there the first time, and the thumb break took a little muscle. I left one of my pistols in it for about a week, and after that, the draw became smoother, and the thumb break was easier to secure.

Comfort and Everyday Carry

Despite being a traditional leather OWB holster, this one carries surprisingly tight to the body. That’s great for concealment with the right clothing, and it keeps the pistol from feeling like it’s flopping around on your belt. I typically use a Groove Life belt for my EDC, though my firearm-specific belt with a Cobra buckle is a great match for this holster. Because I’m using it at an outdoor range, concealment is a low priority. But a coat, jacket, or hoody would cover it well enough for colder weather carry.

Walking, sitting, leaning over – the holster stays put. The CZ 75 isn’t exactly a lightweight firearm, but the belt slot spacing and forward cant help distribute the weight so it never feels awkward or fatiguing.

Draw and Retention

The steel-reinforced thumb break adds a layer of security without slowing things down too much. I’ve got a similar rimfire holster, so it’s not much of an adjustment. After breaking in the leather slightly, the action becomes much more fluid. The forward cant puts your wrist in a natural angle for the draw, which really helps with presentation – especially from the 4 o’clock position.

Reinforced thumb break on the Craft Holsters OWB leather holster.

Reholstering is also straightforward. The reinforced mouth keeps the holster open, so you’re not fighting the leather each time you put the pistol back. After several weeks, I can reholster easily and smoothly, though the thumb break still requires a quick glance.

Build Quality and Materials

Craft Holsters has a good reputation for using premium materials, and this one fits that mold. The leather is thick, I’ve already mentioned the clean stitching, and the holster holds its shape well. Everything feels like it’s built for long-term use, not just short-term comfort. Even the retention strap hardware looks better than what I’ve seen on some competing holsters. Instead of a simple snap, there’s a short piece of steel riveted in place to help keep its shape.

The widely spaced belt slots provide excellent stability on the belt.

Who This Holster Is Best For

This OWB leather holster is ideal if you prefer:

A traditional leather design with a molded, secure fit

Stable 4 o’clock carry that stays put throughout the day

Added retention from a steel-reinforced thumb break

A holster made specifically for your firearm (not a loose “one size fits most” option)

A holster available in configurations for lights, lasers, or optics

Pros and Cons

Pros:

Comfortable all-day carry

Excellent molded fit

Great stability from the wide belt slots

Steel-reinforced thumb break adds security

High-quality full-grain leather construction

Cons:

Needs a short break-in period

Leather requires some maintenance over time

Not as fast as an open-top Kydex holster

Final Thoughts: Should You Buy It?

If you’re looking for a comfortable OWB leather holster for your firearm that offers great retention, stability, and long-term durability, the Craft Holsters OWB Leather Belt Holster is a strong choice. It blends old-school craftsmanship with features that actually matter for everyday carry.

And for full transparency, this particular model is manufactured by Falco and offered through Craft Holsters. That partnership gives you the benefit of Falco’s handmade leatherwork with Craft’s excellent ordering and support process.

Overall, it’s a well-made holster that fits the CZ 75 perfectly, carries comfortably, and is built to last – exactly what most people want from a leather OWB holster. I’d like to thank Craft Holsters for providing their product for my testing and evaluation.
The post Craft Holsters OWB Leather Holster appeared first on Industry Outsider.

The Axil GSX 3.0 is the latest from Axil, and after a few outings at the range and around the house, it’s clear this is one of the most flexible Bluetooth hearing protection earbuds I’ve used. Whether you’re shooting, working with power tools, mowing the lawn, or just outdoors with some music, GSX 3.0 blends protection, awareness, and convenience in one compact package.

What the Axil GSX 3.0 Brings to the Table

With three core operating modes, the GSX 3.0 gives you options other earbuds can’t match:

Bluetooth 5.3 audio – stream music, podcasts, or calls with stable connectivity

Hearing enhancement mode – 5 adjustable levels to amplify voices and ambient sounds for safety or awareness

Hearing protection mode – foam or silicone tips plus electronic compression that manages loud noises like gunshots or power tools

On top of that, Axil backs it with feature-rich extras: multiple tip sizes, concha locks, IP65 water & sweat resistance, a compact case, and a rechargeable battery that beats most standalone ear pro. For anyone who wants in-ear hearing protection for shooting range, workshops, or outdoor work, this looks like a strong contender.

Axil GSX 3.0 Bluetooth Hearing Protection Earbuds.

Fit, Comfort & Wearability

Fit can make or break earbuds – especially in-ear hearing protection. I think my ears are probably oddly shaped. Yet Axil includes a wide selection of tips and ear locks, which gives you a good shot at a snug, secure fit without pressure points. In my testing, the earbuds stayed in place while walking at a fast pace, shooting, and while wearing glasses.

The “Lock-n-Loaded Fit” design lives up to the name: once the ear locks engage, they stay locked. Even after several hours, they never felt loose like a cheap pair might. For shooters or tradesmen who switch environments often, that stability is important. Since I’m still not an ear model, I’ve borrowed the photo below from the Axil website.

Axil GSX 3.0 Bluetooth Hearing Protection Earbuds.

Axil GSX 3.0 Controls

One of my favorite features of the Axil GSX 3.0 earbuds is the touch control. Both earbuds have a touch pad that controls various functions. Holding either pad turns the hearing enhancement on or off, and a polite female voice confirms this action. A simple tap of the left side reduces ambient volume, while doing the same on the right side increases it.

Axil GSX 3.0 touch panels.

Music controls are handled by the module that contains the battery, which is the right side one. The “+” button is closest to your ear, while the “- ” button is at the other end. These buttons also control advancing or replaying tracks by using a long press. Full instructions for all controls are found in the included Start Guide, making it easy to get up and running with minimal fuss.

Axil GSX 3.0 controls.

Hearing Enhancement and Protection Performance

Flip on the hearing enhancement mode and the difference is noticeable. Ambient conversations, range commands, and those annoying chickens down the road from the range – all come in clearer, with more depth. It doesn’t sound artificial or muffled, and the amplification stays natural. That’s a big plus if you want situational awareness without wearing bulky over-ear muffs.

Switch to protection mode and, with the Max Protect foam tips (26 dB SNR / 21 dB NRR), loud noises get clipped hard. I tested them on both rimfire and centerfire loads outdoors – the reduction felt solid, and I didn’t notice any issues after a full session. For an in-ear pair, that’s impressive. Just remember: no ear pro is foolproof for every environment – if you’re indoors or blasting heavy calibers, over-ear protection might still be the safest call.

Axil GSX 3.0 Bluetooth Audio, Calls & Daily Use

In Bluetooth mode, the Axil GSX 3.0 does more than just protect; it works like a competent everyday pair of earbuds. Pairing was quick, signal held great, and audio had more bass and clarity than I expected, thanks to Axil’s “Bass Boost” chamber design. It’s good for workout playlists, range downtime, or long walks along the beach. My musical taste runs mostly towards classic rock and 80s music, which is reproduced quite well – clear vocals and guitar solos, and a little bit of punch on the bottom end.

The “Call Aware” feature is neat: The hearing enhancement feature stays on, so you maintain ambient hearing when a call comes in. This makes them useful if you expect to take calls while working or traveling. Volume limiting during Hear-Through helps keep things safe and situationally aware, too. With enhancement on, music volumes are limited too, so that you can hear your surroundings. Turning off enhancement allows for maximum music and call volumes.

Battery Life & Durability

Axil claims up to 40 hours of hearing enhancement, 20 hours Bluetooth-only, and ~15 hours combined use. In real-world testing, mixed use (hearing enhancement + protection + Bluetooth), I can get a full week out of a charge. That’s several hours at the range, and several more of just listening to music while doing things around the house, or going for a walk. Charging via USB-C took about 2 hours. Notably, the battery isn’t user-replaceable, so keeping them charged regularly is part of the routine.

As for durability: the IP65 rating held up. I wore them through sweat, dust, and a light drizzle on a windy shooting day – no degradation or water ingress. For outdoor use, yard work, or range days, that’s a major advantage over standard earbuds.

Who the Axil GSX 3.0 is for, and Who Might Want Something Else

The GSX 3.0 works well if you want a single device that covers multiple roles:

Shooting range users who want ear-pro + music or calls without bulky muffs

Hunters or outdoor folks who want hearing protection but also situational awareness

Tradesmen, landscapers, or DIYers working with loud tools but needing communication and comfort

Anyone wanting rechargeable, weather-resistant hearing protection earbuds for daily use

If you spend lots of time on indoor rifle ranges, especially with high-power rifles, you may still want heavy-duty over-ear protection – in-ear earbuds can’t always match that level of suppression. Also, the battery being non-replaceable means you must stay on top of charging if you plan long sessions away from power.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

Triple functionality – hearing protection, enhancement, and Bluetooth audio

Secure, comfortable fit with many tip options and concha locks

Good audio quality with Bass Boost chamber, usable for music/podcasts

Long battery life compared to other electronic ear pro earbuds

IP65 water & sweat resistance – rugged enough for outdoor or workshop use

Situational awareness remains possible thanks to the enhanced hearing mode

Cons / Limitations:

In-ear protection may not match over-ear muffs for high-caliber rifles or indoor ranges

Battery is not user-replaceable – you must keep it charged

Earbud fit can require some trial-and-error to seal properly

TandemKross Eagle Eye Fiber Optic Sight Set for Ruger Mark Series

If you’re looking to upgrade the stock sights on your Ruger Mark series pistol, the TandemKross Eagle Eye Fiber Optic Sight Set is a noticeable improvement. The fiber-optic rods are bright and easy to pick up, and the tall sight plane makes target acquisition faster. And they co-witness with most optics. After installing a similar system on my Browning Buck Mark, I’m convinced this is the ideal option. Between the two, you’re covered for most lighting conditions.

First Impressions

TandemKross builds them solidly, as expected. The rear sight is aluminum and fully adjustable for windage and elevation. The front is a tall fiber-optic tower, also aluminum. Both have an attractive matte black finish. They’re compatible with many Ruger Mark II, III, IV, and 22/45 models. Lightweight, simple, and clean – they look and feel like a high-quality upgrade right out of the box.

Installation of the Eagle Eye Fiber Optic Sights

Installation is straightforward if you’ve done dovetail sights before, but I would recommend caution when removing the factory rear sight. After loosening the set screws, mine had to be tapped out with a light mallet and a brass punch. Go from right to left. Insert the new sight in the opposite direction, making sure the specially-designed dovetail insert is in the correct orientation. Snug it down while verifying alignment.

Removal of the Ruger Mark IV Lite rear sight.

Some Mark pistols have misalignment issues with the factory sights. To counter this, the rear sight has some rotational adjustment. With the body installed, flip the hinged sight into place and gently tighten it.. Keep the wrench handy for adjusting windage and elevation.

TandemKross Eagle Eye Fiber Optic Rear Sight for Ruger Mark Pistols.

The front sight installation is easy: remove the factory screw, remove the sight. Before installed the new sight, swap the fiber-optic rod if you want a different color. Then set the sight into place and tighten down the screw. As always, pay attention to alignment. This is really a simple task, though I still recommend reading the instructions first.

<img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-30683" src="https://industryoutsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/MG_0319.webp" alt="TandemKross Eagle Eye fiber optic front sight installed.

Adjustment

Due to differences in ammo, choose your favorite ammo before zeroing. Bullet weight and velocity can affect point of impact, so it pays to start with whatever you use the most. Then select the distance for your zero – I usually start with 25 yards for pistols. Shoot some rounds, see where they land, and adjust accordingly. There is a top screw on the sight for elevation. And on the right side is a screw for windage.

TandemKross Eagle Eye fiber optic rear sight adjustment screws.

Switching ammo may result in a change to the point of impact. If that happens, make note of any adjustments, so you can easily return to your original settings. Since I mostly shoot steel, cans, and expired fruit, I don’t need to worry too much about being off a little bit.

Range Performance with Eagle Eye Fiber Optic Sights

Once zeroed, the sights make a big difference. The fiber-optic rods are bright and easy to see, and the taller sight plane makes transitions between targets much faster. The rear adjustments let you fine-tune the zero. After a few rounds, hits became more consistent. Due to astigmatism, most red or green dot optics “bloom” a bit for me. So as much as I love a good reflex sight, I’m equally as comfortable with some quality fiber optics. My Viridian RFX15 allows for a perfect cowitness when direct-mounted to the TandemKross Shadow Mount. This gives me the best of both worlds.

<img decoding="async" class="wp-image-30688 size-full" src="https://industryoutsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/MG_0314.webp" alt="Ready for the range with the TandemKross Eagle Eye Fiber Optic Sight Set installed.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

Bright, tall fiber-optic sight picture for faster target acquisition

Fully adjustable rear sight (windage and elevation)

Durable aluminum construction without adding weight

Compatible with most Ruger Mark series pistols

Cons:

Rear dovetail removal requires patience or gunsmithing for best results

Not all optics will cowitness (check first, if that’s a concern)

Fiber-optic rods are wear items and may need replacement over time

My Verdict

If you want a better sight picture on your Ruger Mark series, the TandemKross Eagle Eye Fiber-Optic Sight Set is a worthwhile upgrade. It improves visibility, speeds up target acquisition, and the adjustability gives you confidence on the range. For the price, it delivers performance that outpaces stock sights. Just plan for a careful installation, and once it’s zeroed, it performs exactly as advertised.

As always, I’d like to thank TandemKross for providing their Eagle Eye Fiber-Optic Sight Set for my testing and evaluation.

The Tekto F1 Alpha has been the most recent addition to my EDC (everyday carry) rotation. Before we get into the details, if you’re looking to buy one, you can use my Tekto Knives coupon code INDUSTRYOUTSIDER for 10% off at TektoKnives.com. This Tekto promo code works on the F1 Alpha and all other Tekto knives.

It’s a bit larger than some of my usual pocket knives, but still manageable for daily tasks. I prefer knives that feel substantial in the hand while remaining lightweight, and the F1 Alpha hits that balance. Despite its name, it’s discreet enough for everyday use — I’m more likely to slice a sandwich at work than cut a seatbelt or fight off a ninja. That said, it’s plenty capable if you need a reliable tool in a pinch. In this Tekto F1 Alpha EDC folding knife review, I’ll cover blade performance, handle material, deployment, and everyday usability.

Tekto F1 Alpha Knife Specifications

The F1 Alpha measures 4.5 inches closed, with a 3.1-inch titanium-coated D2 steel blade, making it comfortable for pocket carry or clipped to a bag. The handle is forged carbon fiber, giving it a solid feel and excellent grip without adding extra weight. At 3.3 ounces, it’s noticeable in the hand but still light enough for all-day carry.

Additional features include:

Reversible pocket clip for versatile carry

Lanyard hole and glass breaker on the pommel

Modified straight-back blade with a Rockwell hardness of 58-60

For comparison, check out my Tekto A2 Badger automatic knife review for a slightly smaller EDC automatic option.

Tekto F1 Alpha EDC folding knife closed with reversible pocket clip.

About the D2 Steel Blade

D2 steel is known for excellent edge retention, and the Tekto F1 Alpha demonstrates this perfectly. Out of the box, the blade is sharp and holds that edge through regular EDC tasks like opening packages, slicing food, processing cardboard, and cutting paracord. Touching it up takes a bit more effort than softer steels, but that tradeoff is worth it if you value durability and consistent performance.

If you prefer quick sharpening over long-term retention, D2 might not be your favorite. But for everyday carry knives, it strikes a strong balance between toughness and usability.

Tekto F1 Alpha folding knife with D2 steel blade.

Ergonomics and Deployment

The F1 Alpha’s handle sits comfortably in the hand, with grooves reminiscent of pistol serrations for added control. The spine of the blade includes fine jimping that continues into the handle for extra grip. Deployment is smooth and satisfying thanks to ceramic ball bearings that allow the blade to flick out easily. There’s no spring assist, so it won’t open accidentally in your pocket. Once deployed, the liner lock holds the blade securely with zero side-to-side movement.

Overall, the knife feels solid, well-made, and comfortable for repeated use — exactly what you want in an EDC folding knife. And if you’re planning to pick one up, don’t forget there’s a Tekto Knives discount code (INDUSTRYOUTSIDER) that gets you 10% off.

Everyday Use and EDC Performance

In practical use, the Tekto F1 Alpha handled everything from packages and food to basic household tasks. It’s large enough to feel capable, yet compact enough to avoid feeling bulky during daily carry. Out of the box, the blade passed my sharpness test by slicing cleanly through paper and cardboard. It also cut paracord and rope effortlessly.

While I wasn’t attacked by ninjas during testing, I wouldn’t hesitate to rely on it defensively if needed. And for daily carry that doesn’t attract attention, the F1 Alpha performs exactly as expected.

Tekto F1 Alpha knife showing lanyard hole and glass breaker.

User Feedback and Community Experience

Other users’ experiences reinforce my impressions. On BladeForums, owners praised the D2 blade for holding a fine edge through repeated use. Amazon reviewers highlighted the forged carbon handle as comfortable for extended carry and noted its smooth deployment.
